Employment is an important part of the settlement journey and a key component of integration into society. A wide range of services are available to support newcomers in this stage of settlement, however, barriers to employment continue to persist.
To engage this, seven agencies in Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray, and Red Deer participated in a survey developed by the Helping Immigrants Succeed (HIS) working group on employment in Alberta. The survey was provided with two primary objectives: to identify the main barriers to employment for newcomers in Alberta and to find pertinent recommendations to address these identified barriers.
