These tools and free videos help people access healthcare services by learning to navigate the healthcare system better, reducing the barriers to accessing services and improving health literacy outcomes.
Newcomer Nutrition Education Toolkit:
Alberta Health Services Public Health Dietitians are happy to share that Nutrition Lessons for English Language Learners are now available! These lesson plans were initially developed by Ottawa Public Health and ESL/LINC Educators from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The lessons have been reviewed by language educators in Alberta, following PBLA guidelines for Foundation Literacy and CLB 1 – 5.

The “Well on Your Way” page from Alberta Health Services helps youth transition from pediatric to adult healthcare. It provides resources for youth, caregivers, and healthcare providers on managing health responsibilities, understanding medical conditions, and navigating adult healthcare systems. It also includes guidance on accessing funding, home care, and support services.
Primary Care Alberta Launches Province-Wide New Parent and Newborn Support Line:
The Primary Care Alberta (PCA) New Parent and Newborn Line – a service that refers Health Link 811 callers to registered nurses specializing in postpartum care – is now available across Alberta.
Canadian Dental Care Plan
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is helping make the cost of dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents.
To qualify for the CDCP, the client must:
- Not have access to dental insurance
- Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
- Have filed an income tax return for 2023
- Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Applications now open for:
- Seniors aged 65 and over
- Children under the age of 18
- Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate
