Free Tax Clinics
Through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), community organizations host free tax clinics where volunteers complete tax returns for people with a modest income and a simple tax situation.

Determining Your Residency Status
There are residency codes on the Notice of Assessment from CRA. This could help an individual uncertain of their residency status.
The following residency codes indicate that an individual is a resident of Canada for income tax purposes. The client would qualify for the Plan.
– 0 Resident
– 5 Overseas Employment Tax credits
– 8 Deemed Residents s250
– 9 Factual Residents s250
– 10 Immigrant – prorated Non-Refundable Tax credits
– 12 Immigrant full Non-Refundable Tax credits
The following residency codes indicate that an individual is not a resident of Canada for income tax purposes and does not qualify for the Plan.

Community Outreach & Liaison Service (Mobile Outreach)
Staff are available to visit communities across Canada to offer services to those who have no easy access to in person offices.
Outreach Support Hotline
The Outreach Support Centre (OSC) is phone support for extremely vulnerable clients – people who do not have access to the internet and cannot easily come to a Service Canada Centre or Outreach site. The OSC can help with Social Insurance Number, Employment Insurance, Old Age Security and Canada Pension Plan (including Canada Pension Plan Disability). A client can use this phone number as well as an agency that is helping a vulnerable client. Call 1-877-631-2657.
