    At CIWA, we offer services to women and their families only. All LINC classes are for women. We have two Special Needs classes for BOTH male and female clients with physical or intellectual disabilities. These are the only classes in which we enroll male clients.

    We have a non-PBLA/non-LINC program which is called Pebbles in the Sand. It is a language training program for women who are permanent residents, refugees or Canadian citizens with less than 7 years of education at the foundational level (FL) in reading and writing.

1- CB-LINC for Seniors (Community-Based LINC for Seniors) Program is for landed immigrants who are 55+ years old and desire to improve their language skills and get more engaged in their community.                                                                   2- Currently, we are offering this program to three language groups: Chinese, Punjabi/Hindi/Urdu and Dari/Pashto/Farsi.

The Arabic – English and Tigrinya – English literacy classes will help adult learners improve their first language and English literacy skills. 

Ukrainian Evacuees ESL Program (UEEP) program:   

  • Evening- online sessions.
  •  Saturdays- in-person.  

The ESL for Employability program is for adults (18 years of age or older) who need to develop the necessary language skills to find work in Canada.

  •  11-week program.
  • Free classes offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
  • Open to students waiting for regular LINC classes that have CLB 2-4.
  • Childcare is not available for these classes.       
  • The intake is every 3 months.

This full-time LINC program is for immigrant youth between the ages of 18 and 24. It provides instruction in language and academic skills as well as preparation for further post-secondary education in Canada.

  • This full-time program is for internationally educated learners whose first language is not English. The program provides learners with the strategies and English language skills needed to succeed in academic courses at Canadian post-secondary institutions. 
  • After this program, learners will have the English language requirements for most career programs at Bow Valley College or SAIT. 

This Alberta government-funded pathway program is for learners with a desire to work in the health care field. The program is one year long and includes one term of language training and two terms in the Health Care Aide Program. Upon successful completion of this program, learners  will receive a Health Care Aide Certificate and be ready to work in the health care field.

These programs are for learners who:

  • Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Convention refugees with CLB 3 to  7.
  • This full-time program is for immigrant youth between the ages of 18 and 24 who have not completed high school. 
  • Learners are placed based on either Canadian Language Benchmarks (LINC) OR a Bridge Entry Assessment (non-LINC).

  • The Engish as a Second Language for New Canadains (ESLC) program uses the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) framework, which is a nationally recognized scale of English language ability. The ESLC program offers CLBs 4-6
This program helps immigrants and refugees develop English language skills for life in Canada. Learn about Canadian culture and take part in activities that help you live and work in Alberta as you build confidence reading, writing, listening, and speaking English.

The language, intercultural and technological skills you develop in this program will help you find work, or continue your education in one of the college’s certificate, diploma, or degree programs.
