Support for Gazans Arriving in Canada
On October 16, 2024, Minister Marc Miller introduced financial assistance and additional settlement supports for Palestinians arriving to Canada due to the ongoing crisis in Gaza. This initiative is designed to provide transitional support for those fleeing conflict.
Key Highlights of the Announcement:
- Transitional Financial Assistance: Palestinians impacted by the crisis who arrive in Canada will receive transitional financial assistance, ensuring they have the resources necessary to settle in their new environment. For more details, read the full announcement here.
- Healthcare Coverage: Gazans fleeing the conflict will have access to three months of temporary health coverage under the Interim Federal Health Program. This provision is designed to address urgent medical needs upon their arrival.
- Settlement Services: Newcomers will benefit from a range of settlement services, including language training, information and orientation, and job search assistance.
- Work and Study Permits: Gazans will have the ability to apply for fee-exempt study or open work permits while in Canada, facilitating their transition and integration into Canadian society.
Important Eligibility Information
To access the federally funded settlement services, individuals must hold a temporary resident document that includes the “MOME2023” keyword in the remarks section.
