Ukrainian Rural Attraction Program (URAAP)
The Ukrainian Rural Attraction Program (URAAP) is a collaborative initiative between the Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA) and the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS), funded by the Government of Alberta. The program empowers Ukrainian newcomers in Calgary and Edmonton explore employment opportunities and successfully transition to rural communities across Alberta. Through comprehensive and tailored support services, URAAP connects participants with job placements while ensuring a seamless relocation process.

About the Project
URAAP facilitates the integration of Ukrainian newcomers into rural and smaller communities through three key support pillars:
- Job Placement – Matching newcomers with employers to fill vital positions in rural communities
- Relocation Support – Providing comprehensive assistance with housing and transportation arrangements
- Community Integration – Facilitating connections to local resources, services, and social networks
The program operates through a strategic partnership approach between AAISA and CCIS:
AAISA’s Role: Employer Engagement
AAISA focuses on cultivating sustainable relationships with employers who:
- Have identified workforce needs in rural communities
- Demonstrate commitment to inclusive hiring practices and fair consideration of Ukrainian newcomers
- Provide supportive work environments that foster long-term retention
CCIS’s Role: Client Support
CCIS leads the client assessment process, recognizing that successful integration extends beyond job placement. Their comprehensive evaluation includes:
- Family composition and needs
- Immigration status and documentation
- Professional background and transferable skills
- Individual circumstances and support requirements
- Settlement priorities and preferences
