Thanks to the support of Family and Community Support Services Edmonton (FCSS), AAISA and The Calgary Sexual Health Centre (CSHC) are now offering a workshop to immigrant serving organizations in Edmonton to increase comfort and skills to support clients from the LGBTQ community, and integrate sexual health into practice with clients.
In this workshop, we will build on the concepts identified in the “Courage to Begin” report and discuss the root causes of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and heterosexism. We will then examine how personal values about sexuality may help or hinder our abilities to work with diverse clients. This hands-on workshop offers participants the opportunity to work through scenarios and challenges regarding inclusive practices in a safe, respectful space. Participants will in turn leave with practical strategies for creating a safer, more inclusive, and respectful work environment, while additionally learning about community resources and referrals.
As part of this project we are also offering 3 organizations in Edmonton the opportunity to collaborate with us over the next year to develop a plan that integrates these concepts into your organization. CSHC will work with each organization to determine their needs and AAISA will build a customized plan based on these insights.
